The Real Alcázar of Seville — also known as the Royal Alcázar — is the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe and a masterpiece of Mudéjar architecture. Built on a 10th-century Muslim fortress and expanded by Castilian kings, it blends Islamic, Gothic and Renaissance styles. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is still used by the Spanish royal family today.

Patio de las Doncellas — the Courtyard of the Maidens, with its reflecting pool and carved arches, the most photographed corner of the palace. Hall of Ambassadors — the throne room, crowned by a golden dome representing the universe. Baths of María de Padilla — atmospheric vaulted rainwater baths. The gardens — terraces, fountains and orange groves, including the Mercury Pond.

REAL ALCÁZAR Directions
The Real Alcázar is located in the historic centre of Seville, just next to the Cathedral and the Giralda. It is easy to reach on foot from most central neighbourhoods:
From Santa Cruz: 2 to 5 minutes
From the Cathedral / Avenida de la Constitución: 1 to 3 minutes
From Plaza Nueva: about 10 minutes
From Triana (Puente de San Telmo): 15 to 20 minutes
Simply head towards the Cathedral, then follow the signs to Patio de Banderas, the main entrance to the monument.
Several city buses stop very close to the Real Alcázar.
The nearest stops are Puerta de Jerez and Menéndez Pelayo, both a short walk from the main entrance.

Lines 05, 41, 42, C4 → Stop: Puerta de Jerez
Lines 21, 34, C3 → Stop: Menéndez Pelayo
Lines C1 and C2 also stop nearby
From either stop, it’s a 5 to 7-minute walk to the Alcázar entrance at Patio de Banderas.
The Seville tram (T1 line) stops at Archivo de Indias, which is just 1 to 2 minutes on foot from the Real Alcázar.
